Indonesia Study Tour 2025 – Wrap-Up

At the beginning of December 2025, German RETech Partnership e.V. (RETech) organized a Study Tour to Indonesia, bringing together experts and partners from Germany and Indonesia to exchange on waste management and circular economy approaches.

Yesterday, the Study Tour concluded with a wrap-up session, reflecting on the many valuable discussions, site visits and impressions gathered during the trip. The exchanges provided important insights into current developments, challenges and opportunities within Indonesia’s evolving waste management and circular economy landscape.

RETech was pleased that its members Sutco® RecyclingTechnik GmbH and Compost Systems GmbH were part of the delegation and actively contributed their technical expertise and practical perspectives throughout the Study Tour.

The program included meetings with key stakeholders and institutions, as well as a site visit to PT Mukti Mandiri Lestari, offering first-hand insights into dismantling, processing and material recovery practices. In addition, the delegation participated in the Circular Economy Forum hosted by EKONID (AHK Indonesia), engaging in discussions with Indonesian associations, industry representatives and project partners on sector trends, challenges and innovation pathways. As part of the Study Tour, the delegation also met with KfW in Jakarta to exchange views on financing frameworks, enabling conditions and challenges related to waste management and circular economy projects in Indonesia.

RETech would like to express its sincere thanks to ideas into energy for the overall coordination and organizational support of the Study Tour, and to EKONID (AHK Indonesia) for the excellent on-the-ground organization and local expertise in Indonesia. We also highly appreciated the very close and constructive cooperation with GIZ Indonesia & ASEAN, which enabled open and trust-based exchanges throughout the entire process.

The Study Tour was funded by the Agency for Business and Economic Development (AWE). We would like to thank AWE for the trust and support that made this exchange possible.

Overall, the Study Tour underlined the importance of partnership-based dialogue, early coordination and a shared understanding of local frameworks when advancing sustainable waste management and circular economy solutions.
