1st Edition of IFAT Saudi Arabia 2026: Driving Export Opportunities for German Environmental Technologies

The first edition of IFAT Saudi Arabia took place from 26 to 28 January 2026 at the Riyadh Front Exhibition & Conference Center, marking an important step for international exchange in the waste management and recycling sector. Over three days, the event highlighted Saudi Arabia’s growing importance as a promising export market for German environmental technologies.

Driven by rapid industrialization, population growth, and urban development, waste management has become a clear priority for the Saudi government. With more than 110 million tons of waste generated each year, demand for effective and sustainable solutions is rising, creating tangible opportunities for technology providers.

The exhibition was well attended throughout, drawing a diverse professional audience and underscoring the strong interest in high‑quality, efficient, and tailor‑made solutions, particularly in recycling and resource management.

Strong RETech Presence at IFAT Saudi Arabia

RETech was represented by eight member companies, covering key segments of the waste management and recycling value chain:

The high level of engagement at the RETech stand once again underlined the strong reputation of German waste management and recycling technologies in international markets, as well as RETech’s role as a platform connecting German solution providers with international partners and stakeholders.

Market Insights from Side Visits

Side visits conducted as part of the official IFAT program provided valuable insights into the current state of waste management in Saudi Arabia. These visits showed that:

  • Metal recycling systems are already in operation
  • Paper production relies largely on collected paper and cardboard from industrial and commercial sources
  • Advanced technologies are being applied, reflecting a high technical standard and openness to further innovation

Overall, the insights confirmed that Saudi Arabia is not only investing in infrastructure but is also actively seeking innovative and efficient solutions.

RETech Contributions to the IFAT Conference Program

As part of the IFAT Orange Stage Conference Program, RETech hosted two well‑attended panel discussions, creating space for knowledge exchange and direct dialogue with public authorities, including the National Center for Waste Management (MWAN) and the Ministry of Investment (MISA):

  • No Waste of Food Waste — Powering Biogas or Feeding the Soil
  • Modern Waste Technology under an EPR Framework — What Works, and What It Takes

The discussions provided practical insights into policy frameworks, technological approaches, and implementation requirements in the Saudi context.

Looking Ahead

IFAT Saudi Arabia has confirmed its position as a future‑oriented market with high quality expectations, offering concrete opportunities for German environmental technology exports.
