On 8 July 2026, RETech, in cooperation with the German Environment Agency (Umweltbundesamt, UBA) and Fundación Manos Verdes, hosted the Circular Economy Championship: Germany & Argentina, a high-level expert exchange bringing together stakeholders from government, industry, academia, and civil society from both countries.
The event provided a platform to discuss how Germany and Argentina can work together to accelerate the transition towards a sustainable circular economy. Building on RETech’s longstanding cooperation activities in Latin America, particularly in Argentina and Brazil, participants explored innovative solutions, exchanged practical experiences, and identified opportunities for future collaboration.
A central theme throughout the discussions was the importance of stable and predictable policy frameworks. While technological solutions and business opportunities already exist, speakers emphasized that long-term regulatory certainty is essential to attract investment, support infrastructure development, and enable innovation at scale.
The programme covered a wide range of topics, including the challenges of circular economy transformation, the role of new technologies in advancing sustainable waste management, and opportunities for cooperation through city partnerships between Germany and Argentina. Participants also learned about funding mechanisms such as Germany’s Export Initiative Environmental Protection and municipal cooperation programmes like NAKOPA.
Highlights included presentations on Buenos Aires’ waste management strategy, ongoing efforts to reduce emissions in waste collection through 100% biodiesel-powered fleets, and innovative vehicle testing initiatives led by local industry partners.
The event concluded with a roundtable discussion featuring representatives from DBFZ Deutsches Biomasseforschungszentrum, Fundación Manos Verdes, CLIBA, the German Biogas Association (Fachverband Biogas e.V.), and BlackForest Solutions GmbH. The discussion reinforced the strong potential for German expertise and technologies to support Argentina’s circular economy ambitions.
As Argentina continues to strengthen its circular economy framework and Germany contributes proven technologies and know-how, the event highlighted significant opportunities for future cooperation between both countries.
RETech, UBA, and Fundación Manos Verdes thank all speakers and participants for their valuable contributions and look forward to continuing the dialogue and fostering new partnerships in the years ahead.
