Mauritius launches National Circular Economy Action Plan – Inspired by Germany’s Strategy

31-07-2025

Mauritius has launched a National Circular Economy Action Plan as part of its ambition to become a “Big Ocean Sustainable State”. Germany’s National Circular Economy Strategy (NCES) served as a key reference point for shaping a systemic approach to circularity.

Some of the key impulses for this development were set at the International RETech Conference 2024 “Transforming Islands’ Waste Management: Overcoming Challenges with Sustainable Solutions”, held last autumn in Berlin.

One of the conference speakers, Hassim Pondor, Founder and CEO of Trans Africa Services from Mauritius, contributed hands-on insights into advancing circular economy approaches in island contexts. His engagement helped bring key takeaways from the conference dialogue into national policy discussions in Mauritius.
