“On-the-road-to-COP30”: Brazil Trip Marks the Project’s Highlight

25-07-2025

The two-week journey to Brazil marked the highlight of the project “On-the-road-to-COP30.” As a strategic partner of the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Climate Action, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMUKN) and on behalf of the Export Initiative Environmental Protection, the German RETech Partnership joined forces with strong partners on site to discuss, advance and showcase forward-looking approaches to local circular economy development.

A particular focus was placed on actively shaping the program of IFAT Brasil: Under the banner of ISWA Germany, the project team organized an international ISWA Session on the Orange Stage as well as two technical workshops. These addressed key topics in local waste and resource policy and strengthened both dialogue and opportunities for cooperation.
Our special thanks go to Anja Schwetje (German Environment Agency, RETech Advisory Board) and Rafaela Craizer (BlackForest Solutions, RETech member), whose deep expertise, local networks, strong presence and continuous commitment contributed significantly to the success of both the trip and the project.

Beyond the trade fair, the project was able to generate strong momentum: In discussions with representatives of GIZ, the German Embassy, the Brazilian Ministry of the Environment, UNIDO, and the UNEP Climate & Clean Air Coalition – as well as during visits to civil society initiatives such as Instituto Pólis and through direct exchange with companies like Confecções T. Christina – it became clear how crucial the bridge between local implementation and international expertise is, especially in view of the upcoming COP30.
