Bremen & Osterholz-Scharmbeck | RETech Community Event
Two intensive days, two locations, and a clear focus on substance: our recent RETech Community Event once again demonstrated what defines RETech — personal exchange, strong networking, and collaborative progress.
Day 1: Nehlsen AG & Rohstoffwerk Weser (Bremen)
The event began with an exclusive visit to Nehlsen AG’s Rohstoffwerk Weser (RWW), offering first-hand insights into state-of-the-art sorting technologies for residual waste. The facility stood out for its advanced technical capabilities and its strong emphasis on efficiency, transparency, and future readiness.
Following the site visit, members received updates from the RETech office and board, providing an open and transparent overview of recent developments and current strategic priorities within the association.
A key highlight of the day was the expert session on “Bioeconomy and Resource Utilisation”, featuring valuable perspectives and discussion contributions from:
- Christian Dinter (Rodiek & Co. GmbH)
- Prof. Dr. Michael Nelles (University of Rostock / DBFZ – Deutsches Biomasseforschungszentrum)
The session underlined the relevance and multifaceted nature of bioeconomy as a strategic field with significant potential for RETech’s future work.
Day 2: FAUN Group (Osterholz-Scharmbeck)
Day two was hosted at the FAUN Group. Following the opening by CEO Malte Sonnenburg, discussions focused on organisational restructuring and future direction.
Together, members worked on further developing ideas and defining potential fields of action, including:
- Bioeconomy & resource utilisation
- Technology & innovation
- Financing & funding instruments
- Regional forums with a focus on:
Canada, Brazil, Indonesia, Europe/Balkan, South Africa, India, and the Middle East
In addition to the strategic discussions, internal knowledge sharing played an important role. A guided plant tour offered practical insights into the modernisation of FAUN’s production facilities and highlighted innovations shaping the next generation of waste collection vehicles.
The programme concluded with a presentation by Michael Gormann of European Recycling Platform (ERP) Germany, focusing on Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) systems, their challenges, and future perspectives — concise, informative, and clearly forward-looking.
Thank You
We would like to thank all members, speakers, and hosts for two highly engaging and content-rich days. Their openness, expertise, and commitment once again highlighted the strength and value of the RETech community.
