RETech successfully completes project on financing the circular economy in Malaysia

With the publication of the study “Financial Instruments for the Sustainable Implementation of Waste Management and Circular Economy”, German RETech Partnership has successfully concluded the project “Circular Economy Malaysia – Financial Instruments with a Focus on Revenue Generation”.

The project was developed as a continuation of the “Masterplan – Circular Economy Malaysia” initiative and addresses the question of how circular economy measures in Malaysia can be financed in a financially sustainable manner in the long term.

The study analyzes and evaluates various financing instruments for waste collection, sorting, recovery, and recycling. It particularly considers alternative financing approaches, such as VAT-based models, which could open up new ways to refinance public circular economy infrastructures.

The results provide practical recommendations for decision-makers in politics and public administration to strengthen the circular economy in Malaysia. In addition, they offer transferable solutions for other countries where waste management systems are still under development.

👉 Further information about the project as well as the full study for download can be found on the project page.
