Circular Economy Malaysia

Project

The project “Circular Economy Malaysia” aims to support the development of a national circular economy strategy in Malaysia.

Region:

Malaysia

Term:

May 2024 – July 2024

Partners:

Waste Management Association Of Malaysia (WMAM), AHK Malaysia

Goal of the Project

The aim of the project is to hold a conference in Malaysia that brings together relevant stakeholders. The event will serve as an opportunity to get to know each other and analyze the current situation and problems in the field of circular economy. Together, participants will set priorities for key areas of action and assess realistic prospects for success. The result will be a clear action plan with defined responsibilities and a timeline.

Background

Malaysia is on a promising path toward implementing a circular economy. Initial functioning basic structures such as political frameworks, collection systems, paper recycling, and growing social acceptance are already available. At the same time, however, there is still a lack of an integrated general concept and the necessary continuity in the authorities to develop these approaches in a sustainable manner.

  • The lack of an overall national strategy has led to fragmented approaches so far
  • Need for a master plan that integrates legal, organizational, and technical aspects
  • Existing basic structures and readiness create good starting conditions
Activities and Measures
