ISWA Germany is launching a new Carbon Market Series to explore the role of carbon markets in supporting climate action and project finance in the waste management and circular economy sector. The first webinar will take place online on 14 October 2026 and will focus on Article 6 of the Paris Agreement.
Waste management projects can deliver significant climate benefits by reducing greenhouse gas emissions. However, financing remains a major challenge for implementing such projects in many markets. Against this background, carbon markets could provide additional opportunities to mobilise finance for climate-friendly waste management and circular economy projects.
The first webinar of the Carbon Market Series will introduce Article 6 of the Paris Agreement and examine its potential relevance for the waste sector. Article 6 provides a framework for international cooperation on climate action through three mechanisms: Articles 6.2, 6.4 and 6.8.
The webinar will look at what these mechanisms mean in practice for international waste management projects, including the opportunities and challenges associated with their application. It will also explore the role that Article 6 credits could potentially play for the EU and its Member States in the future.
